Q: What style of martial arts do you teach?
A: Kempo is the primary karate style taught at SASD. It is a complete system that utilizes multiple strikes and kicks in order to defend yourself and neutralize an attack. We also use the teaching methods of USA Goju and elements of Jujitsu and Aikido to control an attacker's force.Q: Do you teach children?
A: Yes. At SASD children can start in our youth program at age 5. Young adults age 14 and up may begin in our adult program.Q: Do I have to pay extra to move my child from the children's to the adult program?
A: No. At SASD advancing to the adult class is completely free of charge.Q: Can women benefit from Kempo class?
A: Yes, women can benefit from classes at SASD. Kempo was one of the first karate styles to introduce women to martial arts. In the adult class, practical self-defense is taught with an emphasis on the attacker's force being redirected into locking or restraining techniques. We also offer a 6 Week Self-Defense Course for women who do not necessarily want to train in a martial system.Q: Do you need to be a highly conditioned athlete to train in the martial arts?
A: No, you do not need to be a highly trained athlete to study. The exercises and training regimen is done at your own pace. Techniques can be and are adapted to the students specific abilities and limitations. But, you should always consult a physician before you start any new physical training or martial arts regimen.Q: How much does it cost to start at SASD?
A: At many area schools, karate classes can be very expensive in the excess of $120.00 per person. At SASD we offer a unique FAMILY PLAN. Your entire family can train for only $95.00 a month. This is a great deal and can not be found anywhere in the entire Metro-Syracuse area.Q: Are there any "hidden" fees?
A: At SASD there are no hidden fees EVER! No registration fees EVER! No belt testing fees EVER!Q: Will I have to sign of for a long term contract when I start?
A: No. At SASD you can choose a plan that cycles monthly, Quarterly (3 month cycles), semi-annually (6 month cycles ) & annually (12 month cycles).Q: Where are you located?
A: SASD is in the New Western Lights Plaza at 4713 Onondaga Blvd. The school is located west of the Price Chopper Supermarket The best way to find us is enter through the rear Grand Av entrance. As soon as you enter, we are on the left, behind the Sports Physical Therapy office.
